My Netgear router keeps shutting off and restarting. I can only get a few minutes of internet before it shuts off only seconds if I try to watch a youtube video. It's then unresponsive for a minute or two, and eventually it turns back on on it's own. It does get hot sometimes but even when it put it on lunch coolers and it is cool not cold to the touch it shuts off. I've tried using multiple power outlets and it is always the same. Please try to keep answers simple, I do not know much about this stuff, I just want f'ing internet connection.

Once or twice a day we notice there is no network available and when I look at the lights on the front of the router, the blue 'wireless' and the green 'Push 'N' Connect' lights are off. I press the wireless button on top of the box it is mounted vertically and, as expected, they both come back on again.

Is there anything in the router log which might relate to this? Perhaps the router is accessing the NTP server at these times and setting its clock, if so a scheduled time setting start of may be the reason for the temporary loss of WiFi. Just looked at the log and was puzzled at first to see that the router thinks the current time is 5am - but it's 4pm here in Melbourne!

NB: I would not have made this mistake if either the wireless settings page or the log entries had the text 'UTC' next to the time - it looked as if it was working in local time.

I have now! It was under the Advanced tab When I changed the timezone and went back to Advanced Setup I had assumed the router knew what timezone it was in from the ISP or somewhere. All good now. When it happens, only the "power" LED is on but red. For minutes, then it turns on and do its job again. I tried to turn it off and on with the button and by unplugging the power cabletried to reset it pinholeblow the dust inside, but nothing changed. The firmware is up to date and the router was factory reset before I started using it. I have no idea what more I could do and as I'm slightly technologically retarded, I thought that maybe someone here could help.

My Nighthawk reboots only when accessing certain apps from the Roku 3. BTW - Support requested that I go back to an earlier version of the firmware then reset the router using a pin on the button on the back of the router.

I went ahead and tried the reset with the current most recent version of the firmware I already had on the router, and right now, it appears to be working!

I will keep testing.

I had tried unplugging the power and then powering back up the router, but that didn't work. The reset is working so far, but of course a pain to reset everything. I didn't reload the cfg file as I am guessing it would over write something that the reset fixed. Good News! So far so good. Resetting the router by using a paperclip to push the reset button the back of the router worked! I have not tried to figure out what setting might have created the original issue, but when I have a free weekend I may try to get to the bottom of it.

Called netgear, replaced product twice but eventually ends up in same situation. Sometimes works for days and then all of sudden Router keeps rebooting by itself every couple of minutes or hours. Netgear doesn't seem to have clue, makes me repeat same troubleshooting steps from script which I have by heart now.
